My Teacher - Advanced
MDEA EL Civics

My name is Crystal Cavin and I was born in Los Angeles, California. Luckily my parents moved to the beautiful Bay Area when I was 13. I met my Swiss husband in 1982 and moved to Switzerland in 1985. I have two children, a daughter and a son, who were both born in Switzerland.

I began my career as an ESL teacher in 1986 after attending an ESL teacher training school in Geneva. I was fortunate to teach in some of the best private schools in Switzerland and before coming back to the USA, I taught at the Polytechnic University of Lausanne (EPFL) for five years. I moved back to the USA three years ago so that my children could experience a different language and culture. I also missed the great weather!

I have been teaching ESL for 17 years and I have taught all levels of English. In addition to teaching English, I also teach French.

I have many hobbies including singing, cooking, gardening, reading and when I have time, making short documentaries. Five years ago, I worked with a Swiss composer and produced a CD that included 14 songs that I sang and wrote lyrics to. I am currently doing a Master's program at USF in Teaching English as a Second Language.

I love teaching English because the people I’ve met over the past 17 years have been wonderful, warm and friendly. I like to learn about different cultures and share my experiences of beginning a new life in a foreign country.
