My Teacher - Beginning
MDEA EL Civics

My name is Shauna Perez.  I have taught English as a Second Language at the Beginning High level, Beginning Low and Intermediate Low levels.  I enjoy my job very much.  I like to spend time with my students, teaching them how to be comfortable speaking in English.

This term I do not have a class to teach. I am working on this website. This kind of work is new for me and I am learning a lot. I love it!

I was born in Utah.  Utah is two states east of California.  When I was very small my family moved to southern California, but we moved to Concord when I was eight.  I have two brothers and five sisters.  My older brother has three children and my youngest sister is still in high school.  All of my brothers and sisters live in Concord or Clayton except for one sister.  She lives in Georgia with her husband and two children.  Georgia is a state north of Florida.  I love being close to my family.

I met my husband in 1996.  He is from Guadalajara, Mexico.  We got married in 1997 and that is why my last name is Spanish.  We have two children; one girl and one boy. Of course, we love them very much.

Most of my day, I am busy taking care of my family, the website, or the responsibilities I have at church.  But if I have extra time, I like to read or work on fixing my house and yard.

I started working at Loma Vista in 1994 as a volunteer.  I worked as an assistant, helping in the classroom, from 1994 to 1996.  And in 1996 I started teaching. I started working on the website in 2003.

I am very happy teaching at Loma Vista.  I have seen many students come, go, and come back again.   I like to know when a student is happy living in the United States because now they can speak and write in English.
