Susan Rausch

Welcome to Loma Vista. I am Susan Rausch, an Intermediate High teacher who teaches at night and sometimes substitutes in the day. If you have been in my class you would know the following things: My husband is Mike and he works at Costco. We are in the process of adopting our son, Alexander – he was born 6/18/05 and is the highlight of our life. We also have a cat, Sammie, who is loved and very spoiled. We live in Walnut Creek and like to walk and ride bikes.

Like you, I've lived in a foreign country and had to learn a new language and culture. Unlike you, I am native to Concord, California. I grew up speaking English. Like many of you I love traveling. I have lived in a variety of places, but I always come back home.

My first teaching assignment was in Peru. I taught English to both adults and children and learned Spanish while I commuted from location to location. I also lived with a native Peruvian family for the first four months I lived there. My favorite way of learning Spanish was watching a soap opera with someone who only spoke Spanish.

My second teaching assignment was at Sylvan Learning Center in Danville, CA. I taught a variety of subjects including reading and math. I also taught English to Portuguese and French speaking children from Angola and Congo. My students were the sons and daughters of Chevron Texaco Employees from the South African Unit. I was honored to help them celebrate Angola's Independence Day. The food was great and dancing with my students was a blast.

I received my teaching credential from Chapman University in Concord. During the time that I was in school I did a lot of substitute teaching. I worked at a number of elementary schools and also right here at Loma Vista. I had several long term assignments including; 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades. I also taught English in the after school program. I really like teaching English. At that is why I am here at Loma Vista.
