its teaching staff and instructional program. This is exemplified

Classroom Preparation
Communicate a personal example of responsibility to students
by being on time, being well organized, and being prepared
for each lesson.
- begin and end instruction periods as scheduled
- adhere to established break periods
- prepare lesson plans in accordance with the approved course
of study
- establish clear learning objectives for each class period
- plan and prepare all instructional materials, including
handouts, in advance
- maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
Classroom Climate
Develop and maintain a supportive, pleasant atmosphere for
learning.
- show respect for all students and their individual differences
- welcome new students and check on absent students
- respect cultural differences
- maintain teacher-to-student confidentiality
- utilize positive feedback, humor, and classroom management
strategies effectively
- maintain neat, clean bulletin boards, countertops, and

Instructional Strategies
Employ effective teaching strategies for all types of adult
learners.
- clearly communicate course goals, objectives, expectations,
and requirements
- begin each class session with clearly stated learning
objectives
- instruct at an appropriate pace and level for students
in the class
- individualize instruction according to student needs
- provide appropriate instruction for multiple learning
styles/intelligences
- teach according to course outline and brochure/flier description

Departmental Participation
Contribute to the strength of our teaching community by being
a participating, supportive member of the staff.
- submit accurate attendance, payroll, and other reports
to the office on time
- maintain current credential and TB clearance
- notify the office promptly of any change of address or
telephone number
- follow departmental procedures for obtaining substitutes
- use resources wisely, and follow departmental guidelines
for requesting/ordering supplies
- obtain coordinator approval for guest speakers, field
trips, and any change of class time or location
- be familiar with and follow reporting procedures for abuse,
sexual harassment, accidents, and violence/vandalism
- follow safety and emergency procedures (as detailed in
"emergency and medical guidelines" pamphlet posted
in each room)
- take advantage of professional development opportunities
as they arise
- participate in staff meetings
