A model program helping individuals with acquired brain injury to once again become active and participating members of the community. It is the only program of its kind in Contra Costa County.

Facts About Brain Injury:

Every 21 seconds one person, which equals 4,320 people a day, in the U.S. sustains a traumatic brain injury.
An estimated 5.3 Million Americans currently live with disabilities resulting from traumatic brain injury. That is approximately 1 in 10 people.
For those who survive and their families, brain injury is life altering. Serious physical impairments are a frequent result, as are a variety of cognitive, behavioral and emotional complications. Depression is a common side effect.
Traumatic brain injury is a silent epidemic.

What We Know:

The brain injured population is growing due to advances in technology and medical care, yet programs and services are dwindling and funding and insurance coverage is very limited or non-existent.
Adults with brain injury are often unable to return to work without support, and have limited opportunities for meaningful day activities and socialization.
With support, education and training, individuals with brain injuries can become contributing members of their community and family once again, putting meaning back into their lives.

What On Track Is Doing About It:

Providing education and training in:

Workforce Re-Entry
Cognitive Skills
Compensatory Strategies
Community Re-Entry
Personal and Social Adjustment
Independent Living Skills

Placing individuals in paid and volunteer jobs through job placement and job coaching
Providing an environment where students accept, socialize with and support one another, and gain confidence in their ability to live and work independently.
Collaborating with John Muir Mt. Diablo Health System, Contra Costa Volunteer Center, Community Support Groups and various other organizations that promote community and individual independence.

What You Can Do To Help:

Make a tax-deductible donation to Mt. Diablo Adult Education’s On Track Program to give our students better access to needed healthcare, transportation, therapy, work experiences and support services through a Support Services Coordinator.
Participate in community fundraisers and special events.
