YOUNGSTERS?
Current Athletes Fail to Field Team; Alumni Entertain Selves

2010 closed with hardly a whimper from the current Falcon crew as a weak turnout leaves alumni to play with themselves at the annual Ultimate Death Match.

Check out the complete history of Alumni Ultimate competition HERE!

1996: Weston, Trepinski Tough Hurdle Tandem in MBAL

Finishing first and third against a surprising Benicia squad in 1996 above, Katy Weston (96) and Jennifer Trepinski (96) comprised the top 100 hurdle tandem in the Mountain Bay Athletic League for an all-star Falcon team that also included field-event ace Chandra Cola (96) and 100m, 200m, & 400m school record holder Colleen Fitzgerald (97).

Weston and Trepinski both qualified on to the NCS Tri-Valley Championships.

1988: Donovan Leads Falcons to Second Place at Mariner

The defending league champions finished second at the 1988 Mariner Invitational behind a strong performance from Jennifer Donovan (90). Pictured above at the Mariner starting line, the team included Nicole Pearson (91), Raquel Pacheco (91), Jenny Steddick (91), Donovan, Lana Abegg (90), Amy Tillson (89) and Sabrina Maughan.

The Falcons finished the 1988 season with a sixth place finish at the NCS Championships held on the Sonoma State University campus.

1971: Whipple Sweeps Throws

In 1971 the newspaper clipping above was tantamount to a CCTimes "Athlete of the Week" selection. Dave Whipple (71), who swept both throws to help the Falcons defeat Ygnacio Valley for the first time, remains second All-Time on the CPHS record board with his 56-4.5 shot put mark, and 163-10 in the discus.

Whipple was one of 30 nominated for the first class of athletes to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Did he make the final selection? Find out by visiting the Hall of Fame ATHLETES page!

1969: Cooper, Harrison Advance to DVAL Finals in 100yd Dash

College Park sprint tandem Tom Cooper (right) and Mike Harrison finished 1-2 in their 100yd dash trials heat of the Diablo Valley Athletic League Championships in 1969.

THE INFAMOUS CPHS MAYTAG ADVERTISEMENT:
It really did happen! After years of laundering team uniforms in her washer, Steve Nesheim's mother wrote to Maytag about the dependability of the machine. The appliance company jumped at the opportunity to use the story.

HERE is the infamous picture of the 1988 Falcon squad, along with Mrs. Nesheim and her Maytag, that appeared in magazine advertisements across the country!

COPING WITH COPAS:
Kirk Copa
(92) reveals a championship physique under his peculiar pink shirt. Copa's individual win, along with top ten finishes from Chuck Wang (92), Carl Grace (93), Shad Beckstead (93), and Harold Shaver (93), helped propel the boys to the 1991 DFAL Junior Varsity championship!

JUMPING INTO THE RECORD BOOKS: It was a blustery day at the NCS Meet of Champions in 1999 as Marlon Bivens (99) hopped, skipped and jumped 45-1.75, just four inches shy of his own school record in the triple jump. The mark landed Bivens a fifth place finish, just one place away from State Meet qualification!

KICKIN' IT OLD SCHOOL: Check out those uniforms... Dolphin shorts! And what about that shaggy hair?! Click on the picture above for a closer look at the "old school" stylings of the 1982 Falcon Cross Country Team, including Hall of Fame athlete Jim Chaney (83). We'd love to know who all of these tube sock wearin' teens are. If you can identify anyone in this picture, post your knowledge on the DISCUSSION BOARD!

ON YOUR MARKS: The offical starter for Falcon home meets in four different decades, former teacher and lifetime Track & Field fan Terry Hughes fires off a round for the 100 yard dash in dual meet action with Clayton Valley in 1976. Jeff Texiera (78) finished ahead of the Eagle's Orange and Allen to help CPHS win the meet 77.5 to 57.5. –Special thanks to Kimi Komatsu (03) for research on this image from the archives.
