ASHLEY ALLEN

2002 Athlete of the Year

Ashley Allen's sensational individual talent and devotion to the athletic development of her teammates has brought national recognition to College Park athletics. She has been the most dominant athlete in the history of Falcon Cross Country, and has been vital to this year's league championship Track & Field season.

In 1998 Ashley joined the Cross Country Team as the only Freshman girl. Due in large part to the exposure provided by her success, as well as her tireless promotion of the sport, Ashley lead a team of over 40 female athletes, of which 15 were Freshmen, in her Senior season. She has been at the heart of College Park's rise to national prominence as a distance running power. In 2001 the Varsity Girl's Cross Country Team made its third consecutive appearance at the CIF State Championships, attaining a top ten state ranking.

Through her leadership, infectious enthusiasm and unprecedented performance, Ashley has motivated a generation of female athletes. With multiple school records to her credit, she has provided a model of success by which her teammates and opponents now measure themselves. Athletes have credited her publicly for providing them inspiration for their own achievement. The league championship titles for both the Cross Country and Track & Field Teams in 2001-2002 are a testament to her influence.

Ashley enjoyed a tremendous Senior year. She captained the Varsity Girls to a DFAL championship in the Fall. In the Spring, Ashley added to her list of school records with All-Time marks in the 1200m, Distance Medley Relay, 6400m Relay, and 3200m Relay. At the Mt. San Antonio Relays she was a major contributor in College Park's Sweepstakes Championship against competition that included teams from across the country, as well as Canada, China and Mexico.

This tremendous impact has not been limited to athletics alone. The Varsity Girl's Cross Country Team was awarded the North Coast Section Academic Championship for scholastic achievement in 2000, and 2001. The highest GPA each season was Ashley Allen's.

Ashley now looks forward to continuing her athletic pursuits at UCLA, where she will compete at the Division I level for their nationally ranked Cross Country and Track & Field Teams in 2002-2003.
