Allen, Bergman, Girl's Relay Qualify for CIF Championships

College Park Track & Field will send six athletes to the CIF State Meet on Friday, May 30th at Cerritos College in Norwalk (LA). Competing against the North Coast Section's best, the Falcons soared to three new School Records and five personal bests at Saturday's Meet of Champion Finals, to make this the most successful post season in team history.

Lindsay Allen (04) fired up her teammates early on with a spectacular 1600m performance. Through two and a half laps a tightly bunched field that included former state champion Jenny Aldridge (02), national leader Bridget Duffy (02), and College Park's own four-time MOC qualifier Ashley Allen (02) maintained a blistering 5:00 pace with several lead changes. Then, at 1000m, Duffy initiated a surge. Aldridge and Lindsay Allen responded; the three separated from the pack and the race was on! Aldridge streaked to a National best 4:50 while Duffy and Lindsay Allen charged through the last 50 meters neck and neck to finish in 4:54 and 4:55 respectively, earning their automatic State Meet qualification.

On the infield, Brianne Bergman (02) claimed her own CIF spot by virtue of consistency. With fewer misses, Bergman prevailed over a handful of jumpers at the same height to land in a tie for third place.

The unprecedented day was capped off by the Girl's 1600 Relay of Glennda Bivens (02), Linae Young (04), Beth Middleton (02), and Lizz Williams (04). After area rival Deer Valley's baton fell to the track at the second exchange, CPHS found themselves no longer running to qualify, but challenging for the lead. Middleton handed off to Williams on the heels of an inspired Miaramonte squad, with James Logan just fifteen meters ahead. Williams screamed past the Mats anchor in the first turn and continued to close on the Logan runner through the home stretch. Her 56.9 split brought the Falcons across the line in second with a new School Record of 3:56.4!

The Boy's also had their share of record setters. The incredibly stacked 800m final included Matt Owen (02), finishing 6th in 1:56.4, good enough for Third All-Time! Super Sophomore Mitchell Steves climbed to Fifth All-Time with a 9:40.6 in the 3200m
