Martinez Relays Recognizes Excellence in Sportsmanship with First John Luppes Award

Saturday's marathon of track & field at California's oldest invitational event was concluded with a special award presentation. Senior USATF official John Luppes and a committee of meet staff selected College Park as the winner of the first ever John Luppes Sportsmanship Award! According to meet management, the selection was made based on the tremendous courtesy, respect and support Falcon athletes demonstrated in their interaction with officials, competitors and teammates throughout the day-long competition.

What a day it was! Having just rolled out of bed, Adriana Hernandez (03), Liz Noey (04), Nicole Pennes (06), and Christina Thung (05) gave a wake up call to the rest of the field, running away to victory with the second fastest 6400m relay time in school history! Also impressive were meet winners Missy Wagner (05), Ashley Cheda (05), Katie Maltester (05), and Meredith Russell (05) in the 400m Hurdle Relay. As the sun reached its apex, so did the intensity on the track. The first school record set in 2003 came in the 3200m Relay, anchored by Lindsay Allen's (04) blazing 2:17 split.

Winners of the Lepak Memorial 3200m Relay, Varsity boy's Kent Henry (04), Jared Oubre (04), Mitchell Steves (04), and Beau Cazet (03) jumped to sixth position on the all-time record board! Steves followed this up with a gritty 4:31 anchor leg on the second place Distance Medley Relay!

In the field a nifty triple PR from Henry, Aaron Lee (04) and Cole Adcock (06) made them contenders in the High Jump relay.
