Falcon Track & Field Project
A
World-class track needs a World-class facility
Thanks
to the vision and philanthropy of Dawn Block and other contributors,
there is now a world-class track at College Park High School, a
track that will serve students and residents in Californias
central Contra Costa County. The new track is the first of its kind
in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. The all-weather, state-of-the-art,
competition-grade track boasts nine lanes, two horizontal jump runways,
one pole vault runway and a high jump apron.
To date, over $538,000 has been raised and approximately $500,000
has been spent on developing the new facility. This level of fund-raising
represents a significant community-wide achievement for the largely
working-class area. The track effort was launched in 2000 by Dawn
Blocks desire to give back to the schools and community that
fostered her two high school daughters discovery of the joy
and self esteem inherent in running.
However, for the school and community to realize the full benefit
of this activity, the new track and field facility must be further
developed into a world-class venue for hosting a variety of events.
This will include the addition of bleachers, restrooms, fencing,
equipment storage, press box, concession stands, lighting, signage
and other improvements necessary to safeguard and complete the project
vision. Moreover, the purchase of track and field competition equipment
remains a pressing need.
The Falcon Track and Field Project Committee has been established
to design and implement the vision of developing a world-class facility
for a world-class track. The project represents an opportunity to
build upon the work already completed to create a sports complex
that will serve the community for many years to come.
Funds are needed for a variety of specific improvements. Donors
will have the opportunity to contribute to specific improvements
or to the overall facility. Donors funding most or all of an item
will receive recognition through plaques and a memorial signs to
be erected at the facility.

Winter Training Fund-Raiser
The
College Park Track & Field Team invites parents, friends, and
businesses in the Pleasant Hill community to support Falcon athletes
by participating in the Winter Training Fund-Raiser. Proceeds
from this fund-raiser will be deposited in the College Park High
School ASB Track & Field Team account and used to purchase supplies
ranging from vaulting poles, landing pads, throwing implements,
cones, flags, starting equipment, timing equipment, plyo-balls,
pit rakes, and administrative supplies, to team uniforms, awards,
and medical kit supplies. In addition, part of this year's proceeds
will be put towards invitational meet entry fees and bus transportation
to competitions. Community support like this enables College Park
to continue to provide the best possible training environment and
competitive opportunities for its athletes.
Our
goal each year is to raise at least $10,000.00
During
the Winter sport season Falcon Track & Field athletes will keep
a daily journal of their pre-season training. The sponsor agrees
to pledge a certain amount per mile, hour, circuit, or day the athlete
trains over this period*. At the start
of the Spring competition season the athlete will present their
training journal to the sponsor and collect the total amount. Please
make checks payable to: College Park High
School. The volume of pre-season training each athlete
achieves is ultimately left to their own discretion and ability.
*Sponsors are also welcome to donate a
single "lump sum" to FALCON TRACK & FIELD as an alternative
to the pledge per mile system. |
