BLOOD DRIVE

Our own 8th grade student Molly Avilez has organized the Molly’s ‘Pay it Forward’ Clayton Community BLOOD DRIVE, located in the DVMS Community Gym on Tuesday, Dec 1st, from 2:30pm – 7:30pm.  Donors must be 17 years or older.  Molly has worked very hard to sponsor this life saving event, so tell your family, neighbors and friends.

FOUND PHONE

A phone was found on campus on Tuesday, November 17th.  Please have your child go to the office if they have lost one.

Did you know that Safeway will give a portion of every dollar you spend back to your child's schools?  That's right!  Through eScrip, every time you make a purchase and enter your phone number, or other indicated information, at the register, a portion of that purchase can directly benefit your child's education.  All you need to do is register for eScrip and designate Diablo View Middle School as the recipient and you're done!  You can even split your contribution if you have children at different schools.  Just click here (add link #1) to register now.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION UPDATE

Our Box Tops for Education contest is going great!  Our current leaders are Morgan Giacobazzi, Jordan Tate, Noelle L’Heureux, Natan Brown, Emma Hall, Carter Smith, Rachel Shamblin, Valerie Senavsky and Madison O’Connor. 

Remember, the student who brings in the most Box Tops for Education coupons before February 20th will receive a $25 gift card from Century Movie Theater.  The second prize winner will receive a $15 movie gift card and the third prize winner will receive a $10 movie gift card.  Everyone who submits at least 25 box tops will also receive a small thank you prize.

The pink Box Tops for Education coupons can be found on lots of products in your house like cereal, popcorn, soup, fruit snacks and even packages of Kleenex!  Each Box Top coupon earns the school ten cents.

Put your Box Tops into either an envelope or plastic bag and write your full name and grade on the outside.  Then, take the Box Tops into the office.  You can submit them as often as you’d like – just make sure each time they are labeled with your name and grade.

Remember to ask your relatives, neighbors and family friends to start saving their Box Tops for you.  We’ll keep you updated and let you know who are leaders are each month.  So, start saving those Box Tops now!

On December 4, the 6th Grade Dance is from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m. The 7th and 8th Grace Dance is from 7 to 9 p.m.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS WORKSHOP

A College Admissions Workshop for Parents of Middle School Students will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 PM in the Diablo View Middle School MUR.  The presenter is Pat Brands, the College and Career Counselor for Northgate High School.  This talk is open to all parents of MDUSD middle school students and was a huge hit when offered at Willow Creek in years past.  Seating is limited so please register early.  Contact PamandLeonHall@comcast.net if you have any questions about this very informative talk that will help you prepare your students for college before they sign up for those first high school classes.

A comprehensive workshop for the parents of middle school students will provide:

• Guidance through the often confusing, always exciting process of selecting and applying to the colleges of choice
• Ways to identify and put together the pieces of the puzzle to find a good fit for your child
• Answers to questions on admissions, testing, financial aid, summer opportunities and more. 
• Practical suggestions for managing the process to alleviate some of the stress.

This year DramaMama's scholarship has been exhausted giving out $10,000.  in student scholarships.  Please help to ensure future scholarships to all of our enrichment programs by purchasing a 1 hour massage for $70 from Divine Elements and 30% will be donated to DramaMama.  Please contact us at gotdramamama@gmail.com for order information.

MT. DIABLO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE

The annual MDES Holiday Gift & Craft Boutique is coming up Wednesday, December 2nd from 1:00 to 7:00 PM.  This event is a great fundraiser for MDES, but it is also a fun community event and a chance for some local retail therapy!

This year, our local Kelly-Moore paint store is involved in a new "Community Outreach Program".  As a participating member, all Diablo View families can now receive between 25-30% off on all paint purchased at the Clayton Road store!  This pricing is similar or the same as most contractor pricing and all you have to do is mention you are a Diablo View family!  Additionally, for every one of these purchases, Kelly-Moore will give 10% of the purchase price back to Diablo View Middle School!  Remember--you must make your purchase at the Clayton Road store and you must mention Diablo View Middle School to receive your discount.  Member discount cards will also distributed to all families within the next few weeks but don't wait--get your contractor pricing now!

HR BLOCK AND DVMS--PARTNERS IN EDUCATION

HR Block is debuting a wonderful new SCHOOLHOUSE PROGRAM as part of a nationwide effort to reduce tax preparation service costs and help struggling schools raise additional funds.  Beginning January 1st:
1)  Teachers tax returns will be performed at a flat rate of $169
2)  Students who need tax returns filed can have them processed for free
3)  Diablo View will receive $25 for every tax return prepared for a Diablo View family
4)  All Diablo View families will receive a $25 discount on their returns

Simply mention Diablo View Middle School at either the Clayton Station or Clayton Plaza HR Block to take advantage of this program.  Make your appointments now!
