FOOTHILL MIDDLE SCHOOL
4TH QUARTER RULES FOR 8TH GRADE
As at any other time of the school year, it is important for eighth grade students to maintain good grades and citizenship. This becomes particularly important as our eighth graders enter the 4th quarter of the year. The reasons for this are as follows:
1. Eligibility for high school sports and extracurricular activities as a freshman is based on the 4th quarter grades from middle school. By board policy, you must have a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) in order to compete.
2. The promotion ceremony is a privilege and is based upon successfully completing the eighth grade year. Students who will be retained may attend the ceremony but will not be able to participate.
3. The daytime (8th grade activity day) event occurs within the normal school day and is therefore open to all students regardless of GPA. However, any student who has 2 or more behavioral infractions that are referred to an administrator and are documented in the studentŐs activity tracker WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND either the daytime event OR the 8th grade dance. In addition, students who are chronically tardy, who are truant or suspended WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND any of the 8th grade activities.
Parents, please acknowledge receipt of the 4th quarter rules by signing, detaching, and returning this section of the form. Please have your student return it to his or her CORE teacher
I have read and understand the 4th quarter rules for eighth grade students.
