Fifth Grade Outdoor Education
This year our fifth graders are participating in 4 fantastic days at YMCA Camp Loma Mar which is located on the California coastline (17 miles south of Half Moon Bay). Camp Loma Mar provides numerous opportunities for ocean and beachcombing, nature hikes in the redwoods and oak woodlands, organic gardening, teambuilding and cooperative learning while meeting CA State Standards for learning. This camp has been serving 4th and 5th grade students since 1982, and Woodside Elementary is one of the many MDUSD schools who attend yearly. We are attending Camp Loma Mar from April 29th through May 2nd, 2008. See our campers: Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Charter buses have already been arranged for transportation to & from the camp. Students will be sleeping in large cabins and our trained counselors will be College Park students. The cost for the camp will be $265 per student-if you have any concerns about this, please contact your child’s teacher. A parent education night is scheduled for Thursday, January 24th, at 6pm in the MU room. Camp staff will be available to provide more information and answer any questions. A medical/permission slip will also be distributed at this meeting. At Camp Loma Mar the curriculum philosophy is as follows: teach students how natural systems work, how to work effectively in groups, and give role models of others who have changed the world, then these students will feel empowered to make conscientious decisions. More information will follow in subsequent newsletters or check out the following website: www.exploringnewhorizons.org for additional information. |
