Dear Parents,
Here is the “List A” of the Dolch Sight Words. These are highfre-quency words. They are sight words because many of them cannot be sounded out using regular phonetic rules. They just have to be memor-ized. Learning these words will make your child’s reading experience a much smoother one. It will also strengthen their visual memory which will help in Spelling.

I suggest you make flash cards and spend five minutes a day with your child until they are learned. If you like, start with a few words and build up as your child masters the new words. How long it takes to achieve mas-tery of a list will depend on your child’s learning style and the frequency of you study.

There will be at least one opportunity a week to prove mastery of a list to me. I will flash a card for about a second. When a child passes the list, a new list will be issued. The lists goes up to K (eleven different lists).

Try to have some fun with this. Good luck.
