27 Families, I hope you are having a wonderful summer! My name is Miss Okimura and I will be the new 4th/5th Special Day Class teacher. I’ve been working at Holbrook for the past three years as the Resource Specialist and am very excited about this new position. I hope that you, too, are ready for a fun and exciting year of learning. Over the course of this next year, students will be encouraged to stretch their thinking, grow in character, and become a community of learners. They will be expected to always come to class prepared, put forth their best effort, and make positive choices. To ensure that your child receives the best education possible, it is imperative that we—parents and teachers—work together as partners in the learning process. It is your enthusiasm, support, and involvement that will help to inspire your child to do his/her best. As such, I need you to encourage your child at home and ensure that s/he reads daily and completes her/his homework. It is also very important that you make sure your child gets a good night’s rest, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time. Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Students should spend approximately 30 minutes doing homework and at least 20 minutes reading each night. More information regarding school and classroom policies will be forthcoming. For the first day of school, please make sure your child has the following: 1 binder Notebook paper, wide rule #2 pencils (at least 2-3) 1 covered pencil sharpener Erasers 3 dry erase markers, thick tip (any color) 1 box of crayons (12 or 24 count) 1 pencil box (optional) 1-2 boxes of Kleenex (for classroom sharing) 1 package of baby wipes (for desk cleaning) If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by phone at 685.6446 or email at okimuras@mdusd.k12.ca.us.
