Wren Avenue Elementary provides a safe, clean learning environment where all students achieve academic success and become respectful, responsible, contributing members of the community.

Opportunities for Parental Involvement (School Year 2007-08)

This section provides information about opportunities for parents to become involved with school activities.

Wren Avenue has an active PTA Board and School Site Council which oversees the School Improvement Program. In the past year, the PTA organized many activities and donated needed materials and items to Wren. Parents are welcome to volunteer in many annual PTA sponsored activities such as: book fairs, Family Fun Nights, refurbishing earthquake supplies, Outside Reading Incentive Program, Red Ribbon Week activities, and fundraisers. In addition, parents are welcome on field trips and in the classrooms to assist the teachers in classroom activities. Fingerprinting is required for all volunteers.

III. School Climate

School Safety Plan (School Year 2007-08)

This section provides information about the school's comprehensive safety plan.

Our school Safety Plan has several key elements including the Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Response Plan. This section of the Safety Plan defines the crisis response procedures, emergency procedures for various forms of disaster, personnel organization for emergencies, emergency conditions, and emergency supply lists. Each year we up-date the staff organization section and review procedures with the staff. In addition, the Safety Plan includes crime reporting systems, and policies for student behavior and safety. This comprehensive plan includes many aspects of maintaining a safe school for the attending students.

IV. School Facilities

Facility Conditions and Planned Improvements (School Year 2008-09)

This section provides information about the condition of the school’s grounds, buildings, and restrooms, and a description of any planned or recently completed facility improvements.

The District takes great efforts to ensure that all schools are clean, safe, and functional. To assist in this effort, the District uses a facility survey instrument developed by the State of California Office of Public School Construction. The results of this survey are available through the Maintenance and Operations Department.

District maintenance staff ensures that the repairs necessary to keep the school in good repair and working order are completed in a timely manner. A work order process is used to ensure efficient service and that emergency repairs are given the highest priority.

Additionally, the District participates in the State School Deferred Maintenance Program, which provides State matching funds on a dollar-for-dollar basis, to assist school districts with expenditures for major repair or replacement of existing school building components. Typically, this includes roofing, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical systems, interior or exterior painting, and floor systems.

Academic Performance Index
