Parents and Guardians:
We have had an excellent opening first weeks of the new school year. Our successful opening was due to the hard work and many hours that teachers and support staff spent to have a smooth first day. Getting ready for the first day of school this year was more challenging than in previous years because several teachers changed classrooms, we had an increase in enrollment and we expanded our teaching staff. I want to express my appreciation again to the office staff, custodians and all teachers for the very best opening day at Meadow Homes. Meadow Homes has the best and most dedicated staff that I have been associated with.
There is a lot of exciting news at Meadow Homes. At the top of list is the progress that Meadow Homes made regarding the state’s Academic Performance Index. The past year Meadow Homes improved by 31 points, overall. This is very exciting news for you, as parents, our students and teachers. Although we still have more progress to attain, a gain of 31 points is the highest increase that Meadow Homes has had since the beginning of API, Congratulations to parents/guardians, students and teachers.
Also exciting are our two new classrooms, Rooms 40 and 41. These classrooms were added to our campus so that we could reduce the class size of 4th and 5th grades. I am happy to report that our 4th and 5th grade classes now have a maximum enrollment of 25 students. This is an excellent option for our upper grade students and their teachers. Already we are seeing that students are more on task because of un-crowded classrooms. I am confident that the smaller class size of the 4th and 5th grades will contribute to student academic growth.
We also opened this year with student uniforms. The students look great! We believe that school uniforms also contributed to our successful school opening. Our students are calmer and exhibiting more appropriate behavior because of school uniforms. Early indications are that school uniforms are making a positive difference at Meadow Homes Elementary School. Parents/guardians please remember to send your child to school in a uniform. If for some reason you child is unable to wear a uniform on given day, please send them to school with a note explaining why they are not able to wear a uniform. Your cooperation regarding school uniforms is greatly appreciated.
We are off to a great and we already working hard to keep our momentum going. We appreciate your support and trust in our school. With your participation, we want to make Meadow Homes a very strong and outstanding school. We look forward to your partnership with us.
Sincerely,
Toby Montez
