A Message from Our Principal
August 12, 2010
Dear Monte Gardens Community,
It is my pleasure and an honor to be joining the Monte Gardens community as Principal for the 2010-2011 school year. I enjoyed meeting many of you at the “Meet and Greet” on July 28th and look forward to connecting with the rest of you as we begin to prepare for the new school year.
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. I attended Boston University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree and teaching certification in elementary education and special education. I worked as a teacher and special education administrator in the Boston Area for several years before moving to California in 1983. I attended graduate school at San Francisco State University, where I obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. I completed my administrative credential work at San Francisco State University and at Sonoma State University. Soon after arriving in California I joined the Vallejo City Unified School District as a special day class teacher. During my tenure in Vallejo, I worked as a special class teacher, program specialist/site administrator, high school assistant principal, elementary vice principal, third grade teacher, reading intervention teacher, and teacher leader. The last 13 years in Vallejo were at the elementary level.
I have lived in Walnut Creek for 14 years. My husband, Mark, works in Consumer Brand Marketing at the Safeway Corporate offices in Pleasanton. We recently celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary with a trip to the San Juan Islands in Washington. We enjoy traveling and have visited Turkey and China in recent years. We have four children--three Northgate High School graduates and one enrolled at Fair Oaks Elementary. We belong to the Pleasant Hill YMCA where I participate in personal training and water aerobics classes. I also enjoy being outdoors, going to the beach, taking short hikes and spending time with family.
I feel especially fortunate to be at Monte Gardens. I have reviewed the tenets of the Diablo Basics program, and have begun to learn about the school from many conversations with Patt Hoellwarth, previous principal, and with staff and parents. Our superintendent’s theme at our Back to School Meeting was “Together We Can.” I know that if we work together as a team we will provide the highest quality program to meet the needs of all of our students. I would like to invite each one of you to schedule a time to meet with me to share your hopes and dreams for our school. Please contact Cathy Maintzer, our office manager to schedule a time. You can also reach me at peterss@mdusd.k12.ca.us. I am looking forward to getting to know each one of you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Susan M. Peters
