IHT Academy The Academy, which includes the Serendipity Restaurant and Bakery, is a small learning community that is a HERO (Home Economics Related Occupations), an ROP (Regional Occupation Program), and a California Partnership Academy. The International Hospitality and Tourism Academy serves approximately 180 students, grades 10-12, through a rigorous academic curriculum with a focus on hospitality, culinary and travel careers. Students completing this program are prepared for abroad scope of careers and advanced education. Potential career choices specific to the Hospitality and Food Service Industry Sector include event planning, hotel management, catering, pastry chef, sous chef, executive chef, front desk operation, food and beverage director, and many other opportunities in any area of their choice. More than 90% of IHTA graduates choose to continue their education at community colleges, universities and technical schools across the nation. Most do so with the support of scholarships they have earned. |

Brief History The restaurant and the academy have been an established California Partnership Academy for 11 years (1996). It has collaborative teaching teams representing Science, Social Science, English Language Arts, Baking/Pastry Arts, the Serendipity Restaurant, Hospitality, and Travel. Located on the campus of Mt. Diablo High School, the restaurant and bakery are open to the public three days a week for lunches, pastries and special catered events. The facility includes a fully equipped commercial kitchen, bakery/pastry shop, a computer research lab, and a dining room with seating capacity for 125 persons. |
