International Hospitality & Tourism Academy

The International Hospitality and Tourism Academy has a series of Field Studies that include overnight stays in California State Parks and other popular travel/tourism areas.

The curriculum is varied and across the various classes students are taking.  In other words, students may be learning about travel and tourism along with historical aspects of the area, and governmental regulations affecting the environment and protection of these valuable treasures. In addition, students will learn about how restaurants work and view kitchen operations.

Travel to the sites allows students to study the geography of California.

FIELD STUDIES

Selected students attend a 2-3 night visit at Yosemite—with visits to the Ahwahnee and Wawona Historic Hotels.

Students visit the Northern Coast of California, specifically Patricks Point, north of Eureka to get a feel of the environment of the area combining the ocean/coast with the redwood forests.

Visits to the Central coast incorporate a stop at the San Juan Bautista Mission, camping at Morro Bay State Park and two different tours of the William Randolph Hearst Castle. Students study art and architecture as well as having a view of the massive Hearst kitchen.

This overnight trip covers a tour of the John Steinbeck Museum in Salinas,  tours of lettuce processing facilities, and a visit to the Monterey Aquarium. Courses covered are biology, travel-tourism, history, and English.
