This is my first year at Northgate. I
teach Spanish 1 and Spanish 2. There are a lot of things
I like about teaching at Northgate: the students are
great, the other teachers and the administrators have been
friendly and helpful, the school itself is very “interesting”
to try to describe when I tell my friends about the place
I work, and I live in Walnut Creek so it doesn’t take
very long to get here every day. I graduated from Brighton
High in Salt Lake City, Utah.
An interesting anecdote about me would be the
time that I took my oldest son on a trip to Peru for his high
school graduation. We did the 4-day biking/hiking Inka
Trail to get to Machu Picchu, and there was one day we had
to hike up and down amazing mountainsides through rainforests
and groves of pineapple, cocoa and mango trees.
We got tired and I slipped a lot on the downhills, and we
stopped on the uphills several times to rest. There
were two little kids about 4 and 5 years old who lived on
the mountain that followed us for an hour. They ran
up and down laughing at how slow we were, and every time one
of us slipped they thought it was very funny, and they asked
us why we couldn’t walk without falling. We crossed
a very rickety old hanging bridge that swayed with every step,
holding our breath and holding onto the rope railing.
The little kids ran across ahead of us and crouched down to
watch us and point at us as if we were the best entertainment
they had ever had.
