CalServe is California's
link to K-12 Learn and Serve America, funded through the National
and Community Service Trust Act of 1993. As part of the California Department
of Education in Sacramento, CalServe administers grant funds, provides
leadership and support services, oversees evaluations, and monitors budgets.
In addition, CalServe collects data from all its programs statewide. This
data is then forwarded on to the federal level where the impact of service
learning is evaluated.
CalServe grants are dependent upon the federal government's ability to appropriate funds under the National and Community Service Trust Act. This federal funding source has come under attack during the recent budget debate. All interested schools and programs are encouraged to educate their elected representatives regarding the positive impact of service learning.
If you are interested in developing a service learning program in your school or district and would like assistance in implementation and development, contact us at our e-mail address which is rockaway@astound.net and we will be happy to assist you.
