All
students entering Olympic are now required to attend a one-week, three-hour per
day orientation class in the afternoon. In order to move to the morning
program, students must pass this course and demonstrate the ability to attend
school, arrive on time, behave appropriately, and work with teachers and peers.
Students learn about the Olympic program, do academic assessments, prepare a
portfolio, and do career research.
First Step gives new students an opportunity to assimilate into the Olympic 'culture' while preparing for entry into the morning program. During First Step, students get to meet the Olympic teachers and support staff, and hear first hand what will be expected of them once they begin the morning program. Department presentations, a history of Olympic High School, credit evaluation, and goal setting, are just a small sample of the activities presented during First Step.
If you have any questions, please contact our First Step program coordinator, Sheila Navarro at navarros@mdusd.org
