Classroom Notes for May 17, 2013

Hello Parents,

This week brings lots of activities!!!!!
Tuesday, BOOK REPORTS/ DIORAMAS ARE DUE.
The winner of my Teacher for a Day is Kaleena!!!! She will be teaching our class at different times throughout Wednesday, and having lunch with Mrs. Kaput, her Teacher of the Day student, and myself during our usual 12:05 pm lunch time.
Also on Wednesday, Ice Cream Social (@ 6:30 pm) and Open House (7 - 8 pm).
Thursday Wetlands and Sanitary District field trip (8:30 - 1:30 pm approx.)

****** For the trip students MUST WEAR LONG PANTS, LONG SLEEVED SHIRTS, due to ticks and mosquitoes, hiking boots or shoes appropriate for muddy, slippery conditions.
As always they should bring a healthy snack in their pocket, water bottle, and lunch in a disposable bag with their name on the lunch bag and water bottle.**********

We still have room for parent helpers to join Mrs. Rosa, Mrs. Mascaro, Ms. Schoenhouse, Mr. Barraco and myself. Let me know ASAP if you want to come.

Last week the class got almost all the way finished with the last Benchmark tests. We will finish them on Monday. I will be testing students individually for reading (RAP) as I fill out the final report card/Report of Student Progress. Those will go home the last day of school which is Thursday, June 13th. Dismissal will be at 12:15 pm that day.

One more field trip remains and that is to have a picnic with our pen pals at Larkey Park in Walnut Creek on Thursday, May 30th. We will leave Valhalla at 10:30 am by bus and be back between 1:45 and 2 pm. I am asking the class to bring a small dessert (cookie, brownie, whatever is easiest and won't melt) for their pen pal(s) to say thank you for writing all year. Some students have two pen pals because they did not have as many girls or boys in their class as we did. It should be a fun day of picnic lunches and games in the park. If you want to be a parent chaperone on this trip, just let me know.

We are working hard to get projects done and displayed for Open House! Student work will be in two places - our room and the pod area which is the large common area/center section just beyond the second door of our room. See you between 7 and 8 pm this Wednesday, May 22nd. Also don't forget to make sure you visit the fourth grade classrooms to see examples of next year's curriculum and activities. It really helps the students to know what is coming up!

Star of the Week for the last two turns were Carmen and Zach. Group 3 has articles due this week.

Happy Birthday to Hunter (Monday) and Gavin (Tuesday) !!!

See you soon,
Diane Roberts
